Tool rolls at Harbor Freight

I've been looking for a tool roll for wrenches for a long time but nobody seems to carry them any more. The only thing I could find were those plastic racks that won't fit in a tool box. Harbor Freight just started carrying a very nice, well made 14 pocket vinyl tool roll for 7.99.

Evil Freight. That's all I'm going to say. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/whistle.gif

That's pretty much it. You have to be very careful what you buy. I bought a brake bleeding vacuum thing there, the brake fluid melted it the first use. A lot of that China crap is, while, I guess I already described it.

The damage to your car will be insignificant compared to the damage to our country's economy. That's all I'm gonna say... again. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

I buy mostly Craftsman from Sears - have for years and have always been very happy. I have, however, bought a few (key word - few) things from HF, but only stuff for which high-quality was not a big issue. And no, lets please not get into a political debate about it - yes, I know where the stuff is made, and that's all I'm gonna say.

After my younger, more stupid years, I stopped buying everything fro the Snap-On truck and became a Craftsman fan. Unfortunately even they are outsourcing much of their products to China. You can't buy any power tools from them made elsewhere.

I need a new drill press and I can't find one US-made except for huge industrial ones or really old used units. And the 40-year-old US presses go for huge money because no one who knows anything about tools is willing to buy a new Chinese unit!

? Sears, Walmart, Home Depot, etc. They all carry tool rolls. Most are cheap plastic ones that will self destruct in a year or two, but some are fabric and will last quite a while.

BPNW, Moss, TRF and others carry very nice canvas tool rolls that can last a lifetime, or more.

I saw a HF drill press at a watch makers the other day. Looked to be a real nice peice of equipment. Not for industral use of course.

Most of my hand tools are Craftsman, S-K, Proto, or Snapon. Lately I've found a used tool store where I can get old USA made tool pretty cheap. I do shop at HF for non critical stuff or things I'll use once or seldom.

Their drill presses are fine for drilling holes in wood. But for precision work they aren't very good. Sometimes you get lucky and they start out tight, but soon develop slop in the shaft, and parts are impossible to get.

Aside from my personal reasons for not buying from that company, I just don't want to buy a cheap new tool when I can get a good used one for the same price.

If you just want the roll, you can buy a vinyl bag from Snap-On.com

About $20 for the bag only.

If it were me, I'd buy the eBay bag from the stay at home mom /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banana.gif

I've been a Craftsman guy since I'm 10 when my mother bought me my first set. Over the years I've inherited other tools. It's all garbage but I'll tell ya. When I need to cut or grind or bend a tool to get it to go where I need to, it's had to have this crap around.
Don't waste your time with garbage. Other nice thing is the guarantee. I've only purchased 1 tape measure in 22 years. They have replaced it for me three times no questions asked.

I would also. I've had a canvas wrap for forty years, and it still serves me well. The first twenty years of it's life, it was used while I was a professional mechanic. You can't beat canvas for durability. Vinyl will eventually crack and fall apart. The canvas acquires a patina and gets a little worn. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
