So I had to take the old 2001 F150 Supercrew 4x4 into the Ford dealership have the cracked front rotor brake hubs pulled & replaced. Try as I might – I’m sure I could do the job myself, but I found that I just didn’t have the tools (or more importantly the TIME because of work right now) to sit down and do the job myself.
Anyway after dropping off my truck I had to wait for the shuttle (no 12 o’clock shuttle) to get me back to my house. So I decide that while I’m waiting I’d take a stroll around the lot. See as much as I love my truck – I know I’m going to have to start looking at a replacement sooner or later. I mean on average I drive about 5-600 miles per week and while I’d like to step up to a new F150 XLT Supercrew or better yet a Lariat, I really don’t need a “TRUCK” every day of the week.
So I’m toying with the idea of paying off my truck and actually keeping it in reserve (for those special occasions where only a truck will do /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif ) and getting a car better suited to daily driving duties.
I know some of you are going to laugh but I actually took a test drive in a brand new Mustang. No I probably wouldn’t of done it save for the fact that they had a brand new “Bullet” Mustang sitting there lookin’ pretty sweet. Now I didn’t take the Steve McQueen recreation out, but I did take one of their basic GTs out for a road test. Guy was cool – he let me take it out on a couple of back roads to “let it loose” if you will to see how she handled.
I must say I was pretty impressed. Performance was great and the handling was pretty tight - granted not as good as my 30 year old Porsche 928 but better than most cars these days. I also really liked the seating position – especially in relation to the stick shift. I’d always thought that the previous generation was totally uncomfortable and the stick was positioned way to forward.
So there it is – I’m “considering” paying off & keeping my 01 Supercrew (own less than $5k on her right now) and picking up a new Mustang coupe. My only concern is how much of my tools & test equipment I can fit in the trunk.
Of course I didn’t tell the salesmen this but I’m kind of waiting for the new Dodge Challenger to come out to see how it compares.
Whatever I do – if I go with a car, it’s going to have two doors (coupe) and have a V8 under the hood. But then I need to figure out where I'm going to put four vehicles? Oh well not such a big deal if I just go with another truck – if I do, it’ll probably be another Ford Supercrew.
