Hello, listers, has anyone used a lubricant of any sort for the original tonneau zipper; this specifically for a TR3. I fired up my tonneau for the first time this weekend, and it zipped OK towards the dashboard, and hiccupped on the way back. I know a zipper replacement is imminent, but in the meantime... a bar of soap run up and down the zipper a couple of times will make it work a lot smoother. wipe off the excess and it should last for a while. WD 40 or Armourall works too.
 
One of those motel bars of soap is what I used... "French Milled Floral Scent" is nice. I finally bit the bullet and got a new zipper a couple of months ago after nursing an ailing zipper for far too long.
 
So where did you get your zipper fixed? Auto interior place? Shoe / Leather repair? Do people stock them that long? Mine jumped about 4 teeth and I can't get them back. I seem to recall replacing it right after I bought the car in '84 but I can't for the life of me remember where I did it.
 
I wouldnt use soap, I would use a dry lubicant so it wont attract dust and gum up down the road.
Along with the lube, alot of Outdoor outfitters that make tents have both lube and zippers, I just had one put on the Landcruiser, Cost $10.00 he even sprayed the soft top with lube.
