I will be getting at the dashboard soon, 2 questions

1. any tips for gluing the new cap over the top? (moss# 453-950)

2. Some of the wires on the back seem to have released their smoke over the years (on two, the insulation had melted together) I know that it's difficult to reinsert original smoke after it has leaked, therefore, I wonder if I should just replace any iffy wires? thoughts? - and if this is a good idea, what gauge?
