Tonight's questions - rear suspension

So, first off let me say that Ms Triss would never be anything but a pile of parts without you guys - I always manage to miss one or two critical measurements.

Tonight it is reassembling the rear suspension.

1. Am I correct that the Shock attaches to the plate on the spring behind the axle? (The plate mounts with the hole inboard but I didn't mark right or left, so it could attach in front of the axle - does this make sense? - Help!)

2. The spacers that go between the spring plate at the front and the body - are these necessary now that I've lowered the springs 1 inch? and

3. If so, do they just lie across the captive nuts on the front? - I don't know if I'm making sense but the plate is not flat since the front two holes have the nuts on the plate itself - can post pics tomorrow if necessary

On the bright side - it is so much nicer working under a car that is absolutely clean and repainted and yes as a matter of fact I am asking Santa for a space heater /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

thanks!

I think it was Hap posted some gorgeous pics of undercarriage (one was a very light creamy brown as I recall) - I can't find the thread but if someone can, that might answer my shock location question thanks

these are just shims between the body and the spring mount plate. the spring mount plate recess the spring eye

Whoo whoo, bad it was.

Ouch - Ms Triss kept her dainty undersides a little cleaner than that - /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/blush.gif I actually had found a pic at Rays MG site that showed just enough for me to know that I had the plates on backwards and a little scrutiny helped me realize I also had the front spring plates on upsidedown - /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/blush.gif /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wall.gif so, all properly aligned, axle & springs under car but could only get two of the 8 front bolts in - back is in fine - time for a break (and back to real job) before I hit something with a hammer. (I'm likely the only one here who does that - right?)

You might find it easier to put the front up first, and then do the rears...

you will also have to roll the rear shackles over to put the spring eye behind the rear shackle mounts.
