A clothes washer, seen them in antique shops, some made the later models out of galvanized metal and rubber rollers.

Technology triumphs again!

We have an original "Woods' Patent Improved Washing Machine" (ca. 1840) in our collection, very similar to the one Basil shows.

Washing machines were even advertised in the popular literature of the day - almost always showing a pert young lady, well dressed, turning the crank or pulling on the handle.

Shades of Betty Furness and the fashionable laundry ladies -
