warmed her up today....
now my idle is 750 and pressure of
48(idle) to 72....pretty cool
sounding...chug chug...but has a
little stutter and smells a little gassy...
timing or more carb ajustment?
yesterday my idle was 1200...what tha?
i also have a FULL tank of gas buti dont
have a cap but plastic sealed with a tight
rubber band...could this make alot of diference?

If you tank is vented through the charcoal filter it won't matter. If it isn't, you will eventually draw a vacuum on the tank and change the fuel delivery characteristics. As far as the gassy smell, probably running a bit rich. Make sure the ignition is up to snuff and then start adjusting on the carbs.

its not vented as there is no connection for the filter in my car that goes to the tank....dont ask me where it went, ive looked.......should i get a vented cap when i purchase one? how about a pinhole in my plastic till then?

You'll need someway to let air in the tank. A vented gas cap is a permanent fix. If you are just tinkering in the driveway, I would go ahead and pull the plastic off while letting the engine run and then put it back when you are finished. Travelling down the road is a different story. I think I would try and get the proper cap before I took it down any trips. Oh and btw, the engine will have to run a while before you start to draw a vacuum on the tank. You would be able to see the plastic getting "sucked in" before you would really be affecting the fuel pressure.

And as for the carb adjustment: the "raise the piston" method works well enough, but I really-really like the "ColorTune" tool Gunnison distributes. I know they're pricey but IMO worth it. I've two of 'em, that just makes the two-carb tweak a bit less aggrivatin'.

I like the colortune product too doc. Takes a lot of the guess work out of it.

I kinda like the idea of WATCHIN' the explosion, too... like lookin' into the firebox of an old steam locomotive! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
