Title help

I know this probably has been discussed before but my search yielded pages and pages of results

I have a TR3a tub with VIN tag but no title. I can get a bill of sale, but how am I gonna get a title? To get my piece of crap 59 tr3 titled I had to sell/transfer it to someone in Maine and then buy it back for a $100. I now understand that he is in Jail for tax fraud...Imagine that?

Is it legal to sell it to someone in a state that doesn't title(like Maine), they register it, then sell it back to me with a bill of sale and new registration?

I ask because I have a much better tub but its a post60000 and the 59tr3 title is a 57000. you see where I'm going with this...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kentucky only keeps registration info on file for six years.

Since you have owned this vehicle for more than six years, you have to go to the county courthouse and tell them that you misplaced your title. There is a form that you can fill out, I believe a state trooper will come out and verify the vin# and then you can receive a title.

I know this because I have purchased two KY TR's without titles and I got the lowdown on the proper procedure on another forum. I didn't get KY titles because I couldn't wait for the trooper to do the inspection before I brought the cars back to my home state.

I'll try to find a link to that other forum.

You are awesome! International Title Service here I come.
I'll call to make sure they are still in business. this just doesn't seem legal, but who cares....

Greg,

I wasn't gonna say anything but...
I would go to the courthouse and apply for the lost title deal first. True it may be more of a hassle but it might be a little less out of pocket expense for you. Besides strange things happen in Vegas. JMHO. Let us know though how you make out.

I've gotten titles several different ways....bought them with/without a vin tag, used an old registration form to get a new one, used a bill of sale, etc.

All of these were for cars that were long ago considered unoperable or junk/abandoned.

Sometimes you have to use the means available to you to accomplish what you need to get done...kinda like politics when an increase in spending is considered a cut....

Unfortunately they cannot do titles for Kentucky. I think I remember Kentucky legislature closed this loophole last year.

I think a lost title application is my only recourse...What a freakin nightmare!!!
