The 20 yr old Michelin XAS's on my Bugeye need replacing:

I'd be perfectly happy to replace them with the same, but they're a little pricey these days. Anyone have some more reasonably priced suggestions for a wire-wheeled car?

Being since I am a Michelin employee, I cannot give an unbiased opinion. Don't tell anyone, but I have Kumhos on mine. Not too impressed with them, but given the fact that my Sprite has a completely stock suspension, they work well enough for my driving style. Only dry pavement in warm temperatures. The choices in 155-13s from Michelin/Goodrich/Uniroyal were not that great and the price was right.
