Tires & Bumper

Two quick questions now I'm spending more time on the road, I'm getting down the list /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Photo attached.
1. I have the 'weird year' midget, 74 where the bumbers are this chrome hybrid with bulbous protrusions fore and aft. Behind them are the regular chrome bumber. Leave the rubber, or whip it off?
2. The wheels I've been told need the stock tire, what is on it now are Perreli 145 so they must be 10 years old. Tirerack has 155/80/R13 and is the closest I've seen in all my looking, will they be OK?
Thanks chaps.

Wow, lovely car, but but are you going to push something. I agree, they got to go.

Very Nice Car,

Those Rostyles look like they are from a '71. You should be okay with the 155's they will put a bit more rubber outside of the rim and slightly decrease your rear wheel ratio (very marginal - due to a bit larger diameter).

As for taking off the chrome overriders you will probably need to change the bumper rail as well because usually the chrome is oxizided very badly under them and it will still show where the originals sat. Unless someone has had success polishing them there, so that they are even, but I have never seen it.

Once again, Sweet Ride!

I'd vote for removing the blocks. That's a nice looking car, and those big honking rubber things just don't fit in very well.

Don't know if the wheel size on later Spridgets is different, but the Tunenug has 155/80R13 tires on the original steel wheels, and they seem to work fine.

my car is the same year....my front bumper looks real good without those rubbers....cant get the back ones off yet so i took it all off....you can run whatever tire that fits in the wheel well, but ur speed will change...ive got slightly larger tires on the back than the front....looks good, but ill get more organized later on....zzimmmmy

I'm not worried about the speedo at this point, right now it says I'm doing 15mph when I idle, and says I'm doing 60mph when I'm actually doing 72, I have to thank Sangamon County deputies for letting me know that.
I have to mess with the gearbox anyway so I'll do the speedo then.
Tire size: if they fit, I'll get em.
Cheers!

I'm quite certain they'll fit. I run 165/70R13's on stock wheels in my Square Wheel Arched car with no issues.

i have 185/70 in the back and 155/80 on the front...thats about as big as the rear will take, and somethings rubbing a little on big bumps...looks ok, although a bit high up i think...zimmmmy
