Tire Size on 13"/5" Mini lites

I just ordered the 13"/5"mini lite repros from Moss and am looking for tire size recommendations. There's been a lot of discussion in the past re tires in this forum, but it just leaves me confused. In a nutshell, what works without rubbing?

Tony, I ran 185 70's on a square arched Sprite, with minor rear rub issues under hard cornering, but didn't have a panhard bar. I've got 175 70's on a round arch Midget with no problems at all, and what appears to be plenty of clearance for more tire, so the Bugeye should be about the same.
Both of these setups are on the Minotaur 13x5" wheels, with no spacers used to widen the track.
Watch the clearance between the tie rod end and the front wheel, as you may have to trim a bit from the exposed end of the stud to clear the wheel. If you use tape weights for balance, make sure they aren't in the path of the tie rod, as it pops them right off. (The voice of experience. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif)

Jeff.....so what you are saying about the 185 70s being OK for a square arched sprite (with minor rear rub) should be OK for my "80 Midget....if I understand you correctly?

Westemp, the 185's shouldn't be any problem on an '80, as it sits a bit higher than the '65 square arched car I referred to. But, there may be a minor rub under hard cornering. The 175-70's may be a better choice for a square arched car. That's what is on the '65 now.
