TR6 Tire rubbing

Hello All,

I was under my '73 and noticed there's a major difference between my left side tire and the right as far as distance from body. My right tire's inside sidewall is rubbing the wheel well. Also my differential has a whine to it. I'm wondering if they could be related? What Am I looking at here?
Thanks,
Bill

Not likely they are related; as with IRS the differential does nothing to locate the wheels. IMO you've got two separate problems. I'd guess the differential is either badly worn, or wasn't set up right the last time it was rebuilt. Probably nothing to worry about, as long as it's full of oil and the oil doesn't show any sparkly bits.

The wheel location could be a lot of things, I'll let others comment on what is most likely. On my previous TR3A, it appeared that the body was simply distorted, perhaps from a previous accident.

Thank you, I never thought about a possible accident. That might be because all of the components; bushings, spring, trailing arm seems intact (no cracks) with the left side. I can't see anything out of place or unusual. But thanks again for commenting.

FWIW - on both my TR3A and TR4 the body sits a bit off-center. I don't think either has had a significant prang (certainly not the TR4). I wouldn't call it 'major' but it is noticeable to a careful observer (possibly a quarter inch).

Doesn't make much difference unless you want to remove the drivers side rear shock on the TR3A -- that looks like it may require the body off or access opened thru the panel behind it.
