Tire recommendations

I'd like to poll everyone for tire recommendations for my stock TR6 steel wheels. I'm curious what everyone is running on and what the likes/dislikes are. While the 12 year old tires that came with the car still have plenty of thread on them, I'm a little nervous about what I can't see and don't want any surprises while going 65mph with a car I spent 3 years restoring.

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

I went with Goodyear Assurance 205/70/15 and have never been happier with the ride or handling. I have all new shocks, link bushings and a very tight, perfectly aligned suspension, which also helps a lot, but the tires made it just right!

Hey Paul,
lots of threads going on for correct tire pressure. The original factory specs are crazy low for pressure. Of course the original Michelins were different tires. What are you running for pressures?

Yokohama A539-195's. Grip very well both wet and dry. This is my second set.

30 lbs. cold all around seems to give the best ride and handling so far.

What pressure should I maintain with the tires you sold me?

Remeber I'm running 72 spoke Daytons.

The type of wheel makes no difference to tyre (tire) pressures. Equalizing front and rear pressures, or reducing the differential between them, will reduce understeer and give more responsive turn-in, so is desirable in my opinion.

Many popular brands should be fine, Michelin,Pirelli, Goodyear, Dunlop, Cooper, Yokohama and others all make suitable sizes in a variety of price ranges. Tread life is not usually an issue as they usually "age out" before wearing out.

i think the size that looks correct for our cars is 195/65/15. they don't stick out the sides and are not too short on the sidewall that make the tire diameter look too small. any O.D. smaller than 25" doesn't look right. The originals were 25.4 for the 4,4a. smaller diameters don't fill the wheel wells.

Bill,

When I had those on my car, I ran to the factory air spec in the glove box and all was well.
