Tips for hood reinstall?

I'm to the point of reinstalling the hood. It did not fit well before I took it off as the back edge would bind against the metal in front of the windshield when I opened the hood.

Any tips to make this reinstall easier or is it just trial and error?
 
Blue tape, and as forward and high as possible. If the hinges are in good working order I would try a washer shim and taped edges for a first go.
