Timing Mark

Picked up a 1973 midget and went to time the thing but I can't find the timing mark on the pulley. My eyes are not what they use to be. It's pretty rusted so used some enery cloth to no avail.

What should I be looking for? Is it on the face of the pully or the side?

If you have trouble seeing the timing mark in the light, take a piece of white chalk (or crayon, sewing marking pencil or eyebrow makeup pencil) and lightly rub the edge of the pulley, letting the chalk skim over the pulley lightly enough to just leave a little bit in the notch of the mark...it should lite up like neon when you shoot it with the timing lite.

Oh, and pick up a pair of 1.75 reading glasses at you local drug store to keep on the workbench for protection and sight assistance /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The timing mark on mine is a small notch cut into the outer edge the inner rim of the pulley. It is not cut into the face of the pulley as I was accustomed to on my Mustang.

Not sure if it's the same on Midgets, but on my 'B the timing mark is on the edge of the main pulley. I had to find mine by slowly hand turning the engine and dragging a finger nail over the edge. Once I found it, I marked it with white model airplane paint.
