TR6 Timing Light TR6

What is the proper procedure to do an ignition timing on my TR6. This is what I did...
I raised the rpm to 2000 by way of unscrewing the idle screws and then tunrning both 3 and half turns.
I released the coupling nuts so to work on carbs individually.
I used a carb sync to get even air flow.
Went over to the dizzy and retarded it to spec by advanced distributor 10btdc.(All this was done with vac disconnected)
Rpms were still high after connecting vac, so I brought down the idle screws.
Now if I check my timing without vac will I still be at 10btdc?
Did I do it right?

You should set the ignition timing at idle speed.. 850-900 rpms
