Having a hard time finding the right timing gear setting? Just be glad you don't have this arrangement!

The crew chief on our race plane made all of the tools to overhaul the Bristol Centaurus on a Sea Fury. When he explained all of the motions that the engine goes through, I was amazed.
 
More amazing to me is - NO computers, CNC machines, or technology. Let's see today's generation do the same!

Heck, they can't even use a rotary dial phone!! :D LoL

 
Speaking of rotary phones, I see ads all the time from phone companies for bring in any phone and get a new Iphone with a contract. Wonder if that would extend to if you brought in grandma's old rotary??....

They could end up calling the police! Most of those old phones were stamped on the bottom "Bell System Property - Not For Resale". You didn't actually own the phone - it was technically leased from the phone company as part of your monthly bill.

When my father passed away we had to get permission from the phone company to keep the phones - they didn't really want them back but technically they still belonged to the phone company.
 
I still have my Mom's.It's just like the one in the video,
but Yellow.I need to have my Wife put it on her desk at
her work. She's an "Administrative Assistant" at a high school.
Just don't ask me to operate a slide rule.

For what it's worth I can't start a car with a crank
Put a bridle on a horse or use a buggy whip
Prime and run a steam engine

among other obsolete skills :LOL:
 
...or balance a checkbook...
 
I get weird looks from the young folk in places where I'm not tapping the device with my phone to pay. And pay cash. Bought a drink once at a gas station convenience, handed the guy a $10. heard him say "Uh oh". Asked why and he said he punched in $20 rather than $10. I said not a problem, you just keep $10 of the change that comes up and it balances out. Told me he had to figure it out on his own since I "could be trying to cheat him". So he wrote down numbers, added/subtracted on his phone and finally came up with nearly $10 in change. So I got my drink for about 50 cents.... Basic math dude....

I don’t believe they are still available but that’s just my best guess.
 
A few years ago I visited with a guy who told me that
he was a typewriter repairman before he retired.
