I have stripped my BN1 engine in order to fit a set of new old stock Hepolite 100M spec pistons. My timing chain looks ok.........how do I check for wear?

Preferable to just replace it. However, if you hold it parallel to the ground the droop should not exceed 1/2"

Chains are cheap! I would check for wear on the camshaft and crankshaft gears for wear. I can't find my pic of gear wear or I would post it. Also look for the rubber chain tensioner on the camshaft gear.

Hi Tony,
First check to see if the timing gear teeth are worn sharp on the crown, and the keyway in the gear bore and shaft are not egged out! that would lead you down a longer road! You may have to fit a new key as well. I would replace the chain and tensioner.

I'm not sure here but I didn't think BN1's had a timing chain tensioner?
