Timing chain cover oil seal

I'm on my second new timing chain cover oil seal. With this one I installed a speedi-sleeve. I'm still getting a bit of oil being slung out. A small amount of oil dripping after a ride when parked. I'm wondering if this is normal until the seal wears in? I'm going to go ahead and put a hundred miles or so on and see if it gets better or worse. Any thoughts on this? Thanks! :cooler:
 
IMO it's not likely to get better. "Wearing in" works between hard surfaces (like piston rings & cylinder walls), but not with elastic seals.

Did you use plenty of lube on the seal & sleeve before assembling?

Any chance the leak is actually coming from somewhere else, like between the seal & cover?

Is the oil drain back to the sump open?
 
Yes, no and yes. I'm going to let it ride for a week or so, put some miles on it. Nothing a little degreaser won't clean up later on. The timing cover can't be out of center as there are two steel pins that guide it into place. I do not detect the crank or the pulley being out of round.
 
Went for a 25 mile ride yesterday and a slow parade around town last night. It's not leaking much but it is oiling the front of the motor and the frame parts. Of course it drips a quarter size spot on the ground right under the timing chain cover. The oil builds up there on the lip. My cure would be a seal with a wider lip or better yet two or three lips.
