TR2/3/3A Timing chain cover goop location

Just where is the sound deadening goop located on the cover? Is on front face? Is it around the sides? I can't seem to find any information on this.
 
Thanks for the photo, it gives me an idea of what i have to do, there is more coating than I expected.
 
Despite what one (vendor) source claims - I do not think all engines had the stuff on them.

I have heard it described as looking like 'the last of a batch of Bondo, applied by a blind man with a wooden spoon'.
 
Our car is not much for historical accuracy, but I'll say we didn't bother replacing it after cleaning the engine, and haven't noticed any particular noise, nothing over the sewing machine sound of the valve tappets in the chrome symphony hall on top of the engine, anyway.
