TIME TO GET THE" B" UP and RUNNING

Hi All, Visting fom the dark side as I'm a rumphy guy. I have a 72 MGB, that I purchased some years ago. I price was right and I couldn't pass it up. Drove it for a few months and lost a pushrod. Spent all my time on my TR4, which is finally driving and running well. Anyway pulled the MG up and I'm ready to get it back on the road. Pulled the head today and it looks like a broken intake valve with a bent stem is the only apparent damage. As she has set for a few years, will have to go through the hydraulics, fuel system. and other assorted goodies. I do everything I can on my Rumph, other than machine shop work, but MG's are not my forte. Looking under the hood today I of course said, " what the **** is all this stuff?" So I hope to enlist the expert help available on this Forum to get my B back on the road. Thanks in Advance, Mike

Welcome to the MG side...may the Force be with you! You will find the MG to be a little more simple than your TR /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

And also welcome to the 70's and the age of polution control equipment. Get a Moss catalog or a Bently maunual...that will explain what all the plumbing is for in there. Check your state's emmission control testing regulations and decide what you are going to keep in there and remove with care!

Good luck! You will find a lot of help here /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Welcome to the B side!
I hope he does not mind & I've no affiliation other than he has been extremely helpful to me & others, but this list is very helpful. I have followed it line for line & am not rushing things at all. Things are working out great and so are his parts.
Take your time & enjoy it. The Bentley is very helpful as is the Haynes.

Bruce - I don't mind at all..that's why I developed the checklist...& why all the tech tips are on my site (& I'll be adding several new ones this upcoming week).

Hi All, Have parts comming in, at this point I don't have the money to have the head done by a machine shop, so I'm going to try and do the work myself. Anything in particular I should look for? Guides seem to be all right. What's the best way to remove carbon deposits? I also believe that my MG is a 71 instead of a 72, according to dash and the engine being a 18GH instead of a 18GV. Thanks, Mike
