Tightening up aft tonneau/boot studs?

The tonneau and boot studs just forward of the trunk lid and aft of the opening have become loose over the years on my 65 BJ8. What is involved in tightening these up? I did a quick look under the trunk lid and the studs are not easily accessible through that route. I would like to tighten them up and thought that someone on the forum would have done it before and would have determined the best way to do it. Appreciate your help! Thanks again, Stever

I'm not sure how different the rear cowell is on your BJ8, but on my BT7 I removed all the studs and reattched them using new nuts, lock washers, and also small nylon washers between the stud and the paint job. All seems to work fine. Most were reached by reaching behind the rear cockpit trim strip. On your car you may neet to raise the convertible top out of the way and recruit a helper.

Steve, should be able to access under the rear shroud. I beleive they are 5/16" nuts. I have some new replacements with the correct leather washer, and British lock washers and nuts. Contact me if you need some.

My 100 came to me with a "shorty" tonneau cover which is attached via a series of tenax and conventional snaps that run along the edge of the tonneau (rear shroud). I have successfully tightened the studs while stopping the nuts inside the boot from turning by using a small pair of needlenosed vise-grips.

BTW, the tonneau cover was made by Robbins and dates back to 1958--I got a copy of the purchase invoice with the car. It is made of a nylon material with a woven texture to it that strongly resembles that used on older Porsche and MB tops and it is still in great shape.
 
I am looking forward to diving into this one soon. It is on the list of 'have to do's'. Hopefully will get to it before the April Healey Roundup at Marble Falls, TX! I intend to just try to tighten them up, but will definitely ask for help if I need replacements! Thanks, guys!

The PO installed the studs for my short cover right on the rear cockpit molding. I have the short cover for every day & a long cover for concours correct. Never use it though.

Me neither--and your 100 is about as Concours correct as is mine, with an AL head and DW headers, etc. etc.
