Tightening U-joints

The swivel u-joints in my 1/2 and 3/8 socket sets are loose. They flop around when I try to use them in a tight place. Anyone know how to tighten them? They are Craftsman. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Stretch a piece of bicycle innertube or surgical tubing over it. They sell the stretchy surgical tubing at home depot. If not, a piece of clear vinyl tubing will keep it straight also, but might be a bit too stiff depending on what you're trying to do.

Bruce! Stuff a bit of 3M Strip-Caulk or butyl windshield sealer into the joint itself. Then you can position it. That stuff works well as an "aluminum magnet" too, BTW /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

Craftsman ones have pins, yes? a bit of "gentle persuasion" with a SMALL tapered drift in the four pin points helps temporarily.

Lifetime guarantee.....

Go thru your entire tool collection and get all the waranteeable stuff out and trek over to Sears....

The counter people wont like you ...but policy is policy.
