Throttle pinch bolt came loose; how to get to it.

First time here, having just bought a BT7. Got the carbs (3) synced and was test driving. Went into an uphill on ramp corner with a rough surface. I suspect the body and drivetrain flexed because I ended up with, I think, slippage at the first pinch bolt up line from the accelerator pedal. Under the hood the linkage was touching the firewall, stuck at no better than idle. I limped home.

Do I take off the tunnel to get to that area? can't reach it from under the hood. Can't reach it from under the car.

Thanks, INDNRDR (rider of Indian Motorcycles).

Hi Indnrdr,
The first thing I'd check is the bolt that holds the accel. lever to the foot pedal (see photo). I don't have the stock linkage anymore, but I recall only ball joint connections in the tunnel area. I suppose one of those could have come off. I'm assuming you've checked the things you loosened when you did the sync?

Oh, welcome to the Forum!

You can do it from under the hood with a distributor wrench and or 1/4 inch socket set.

Thanks for responding to that question of how to access the pinch bolt. It's crowded right there, and I made need a mirror to see where it's at, but I'll try that rather than pull my interior and the tunnel apart.

There's a bunch of stuff between that pedal the carbs, I would take Greg's advice and go over the whole thing. Also, at least on the BJ8, there are a number of bushings that deteriorate and need attention, or replacing. FWIW
