Throttle linkage question

Question on the throttle cable/linkage. When the throttle pedal is fully depressed, should the throttle shaft be all the way open -- ie right on the stops -- or not?

The best is to have a little bit of slack in the cable at idle (to allow the throttle to close properly) and if it opens fully that is good but idle is used more in normal driving so is more important. In racing WOT is more important than idle. How much racing will you be doing?

Thanks, Bill. No racing for me or the Tunebug anytime soon -- at least not on a track.

Got things sorted out and took a nice drive tonight. The mechanic (not me) who assembled the throttle setup left *way* too much slack in the cable, and I wasn't getting anything near full power. It's much better now, as it should be.

They does that so's ya don't get in trouble.

I bought a 1967 Cougar in January of 1971.
289, 2bbl, auto.
Heck, a 6-cylinder Falon was faster almost.

Three year old car, basically, factory throttle adjustment gave 1/2 throtle opening.

Had to thread the rod further to get it, and man, was that thing fast after that.

Given the state of a few other things, I think it just wasn't done properly. I wasn't impressed. I guess attention to detail is a thing of the past.

This is really a two person job, one person sit in the car and put the pedal to the floor with the engine not running, and then second person grabs the linkage and see if they can move it anymore, if so adjust to get full throttle when the pedal is fully pressed.
