Throttle linkage for BJ7

My carbs on my BJ7 came with no throttle linkage between the carbs and all I can get from the suppliers is a carb coupling shaft for a BJ8 which is to short. Is it just a case of getting this one and having the shaft lengthened or are there other considerations to take into account.

Rob,

Here's a picture that includes the carb coupling shaft which is 4.5" end to end. The welded link is located 2 1/16" from the left side (as shown on the photo) to the centerline of the link. Lengthening the shaft could be done but sounds like a good bit of trouble since the shaft need to be smooth enough to slide the clamped linkages (shown to the right of the coupler) over any welded sections.

I would call/email around to see if you can find a used one from BCS, Hemphill's Healey Haven, or maybe new from AH Spares since you are in the UK. Another vendor to check with is

Hi Rob, Yes if you make a coupling to lengthen the shaft and keep the orientation of the fulcrum and the throttle stop correct.--Fwiw--Keoke

Thanks for the reply, i guess the shaft i have is 2.5" long (can't find my tape measure) and it has the welded link on and also the throttle stop lever.
I guess i could take these of the shaft and turn a new one to length, any idea how far in the throttle stop lever should be ?
ps looks like you have had yours chrome or zinc plated

Regards

Rob

Rob,

As you can see from the picture, my throttle stop is missing. There are some small marks that would place it's centerline about 7/8" from the right side (front carb side). I guess I will need to fab a throttle stop .. don't know why a p.o. had removed it?

I have zinc plated all the linkage parts with a Caswell Zinc kit.

Cheers,
John

Burlen the SU people in Salisbury should have the parts that you require, they are on the web and currently premoting their catalogues with a 5% discount. I have the service and the parts catalogues and they are well worth the money.
