Throttle Cable Conversion

Hi,
I want to make a conversion to a throttle cable. I see conversion sets avaialble at DW and AHspares, but that is only to operate the carburettors. Does that mean you still have to keep most of the throttle rods in order to operate the overdrive throttle switch? I would really like to get rid of all the rods.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Walter

Greg did a beautiful job. I have an easy solution. Eliminate the OD throttle switch. Just remember when you take it out of OD to either have a little acceleration or use the clutch. Either method eliminates the hard bump to the driveline upon releasing the OD. At this point in my life, I always use the clutch when shifting in or out of OD. It's just like driving a 5 speed.

That is indeed a nice job Greg! But I also like the simple suggestion from Vette. How do I eliminate the OD throttle switch? Just take the switch out and remove the wiring, correct?

Right off hand I don't have the schmatic in my head. But my OD operates directly off the dash switch but also has the switch on the shifter gate so that it will close in only in 3rd and 4th gear. So the circuit then is hot wire to dash switch, then to shifter gate switch, then to OD solenoind.
My car has been wired that way for almost 20 years. When I first did it I would just ensure that I had some acceleration on when I shifted into or out of OD. That ensures that the driveline will not get a hard jolt. When stopping if I was in OD I would just heel and toe the brake and throttle to blip the throttle as I shifted out of OD. These days I just use the clutch every time I put the OD in or out. It is as smooth as if you were moving a shift lever into a 5th gear.
