Three dumb newbie questions

okay, sorry for the stupid questions but, did a 75 Midget with the ZS carb ever come with a manual choke from factory? I'm betting this was a mod by a previous owner....also, there's a little knob with what I would consider an oil symbol on it on the upper right of my dash, what does this do? what about the little red light/switch in the center of the dash? is it a map light?
Thanks /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

a zs witha factory choke?.... ya know i am not sure but my 75 has achoke knop in the dash where you describe, sure looks factory. Mat Herd has the carb from this car. Perhaps he can look at it and tell. IIRC i think it was factory?? i will take a look at the symbol on my choke knob today, and get back to you.

I picked this thread up yesterday https://www.britishcarforum.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=64842&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1#64842
and last night i discovered that i have the same test light function on mine, never even knew it. guess the bulb is burned out. As for a map light i use the Moon... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

Rob i think the knob you are refering to is the dash lite rheostat. on mine it is over the speed-o-meter. and next to that to the right is the manual choke knob. looks like factory to me.

The 1974 and prior Spitfires with ZS were manual choke and there are aftermarket kits to convert to manual (since the autochoke was horrible). Yours probably came from one of those sources. The manual choke ones from Spitfires anyway came with a blue top and auto choke with a yellow top.

yep, that's the way mine is mark. So that knob is the dimmer for the dash lights?

I have to look at the carb, to see if its a manual choke, but my '76 has a choke cable which was either for the DGV that was on it when I got it, or from the factory. It looks to me to be original ... I'd assume it was from the factory and attached to the original ZS Carb
