One issue is the lug nut size.
These wheels are drilled for 1/2" lugs. They will work fine with normal 12mm or 7/16" lug nuts, which are easy to re-fit to the front of your car. For the rears, it's only possible to run bigger lugs if you have the double-bearing hubs..the stock, single-bearing hubs don't have enough "meat" to open them up (sorry, but I don't recall if you are running the db hubs on the rear).
If you're running the bigger lugs, these wheels themselves are fine for club racing. I realize that they are heavy, but for the first few years, that's really not as important as good general car prep and improvement of overall driver skills. And if you feel you want lighter wheels at some point, these would be good rain-tire rims.
As you may know, I am still running stock rims and the little (3/8") lugs nuts. I've run at least 10 events a year for the last 4+ years, which is probably a lot more than most people, so you don't need the latest and greatest if you're just out there to have fun (I did have one wheel failure, but I attribute that to an imported, non-Brit 3/8" lugnut that cracked and caused the wheel to fail).
The lightweight steel rims are a little thin, so be careful with tire mounting or they'll warp. Another, similar source is Diamond.
