Years ago a friend's grandmother did almost exactly that. Now Year's eve, bus driver stops the bus at midnight and goes to a phone booth to call his wife. Grandmother figures he is taking too long, takes the bus, drives it almost home, parks it around the corner and walks the rest of the way. (Her auto boady shop also ordered parts in advance) :D
