Thought of the Day

Not really funny but genuinely a thought of the day

Pittsburgh potholes are notorious as well. One swallowed a whole city bus a while back.

"You can easily judge the character of a man by how he treats those who can do nothing for him"
-- Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

I might alter that to say "who HE THINKS can do nothing for him." So few people seem to appreciate or even realize just how much janitors, maids, and waiters do for them every single day.

Some countries require young men to serve in the military, even in peacetime. I believe certain other countries would benefit from requiring all citizens to work in a service industry.

Amen to that! When people go from cradle to grave thinking the purpose of life is to acquire more toys, and forget they're part of a community, the community doesn't thrive. Interesting books: Galbraith's The Affluent Society, and The New Industrial State. And a very old - but often forgotten - rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Yep, eventually it'll be up to the rest of the world to judge me, so I try to be nice to everyone. Stopped to get some pizza a month weeks ago, new kid behind the counter training to use the register. Probably no more than 16 or 17 and she got flustered. When I got the pizza I told her not to worry, she did fine and that within a month she'd be doing all this without even thinking about it. Stopped in again a couple days ago, she was going right at it. Said that if she remembered me I'd said she'd quickly get the hang of it". Got a nice smile in return, with the pizza...

If you can't be nice to others, what's the point??

Speaking of which, my 2021 Kia Telluride has LED lights that are very bright, even on low beam. I have had them checked and they are adjusted properly. Nevertheless, I am constantly getting flashed by oncoming cars where the driver thinks I have my brights on, even though I don't. I'd say I get flashed about 40% of the time.

I hope they're not wearing raincoats.
