Yep we can get brand new ones that are indeed smith and correct. Yep they a bit expensive, so what, they are one of the first things folks look at whne they peek in the cockpit. Used ones are about half the price on ebay and the chrome rings usually suck anyway.

So for what, 500 bucks you can have all new ones vs half that or a bit more on eBay. Seems like just the thing, comments.

Ahh, I have a guy up in Carolian makeing me a real Bugeye stearing wheel like is in the Orginial Sprite and Midget book. Gona be preaty.

Do you have a source of Smith's gauges with the correct faces or the generic faces?

I think I have seem that steering wheel on some 100M's. Anyone else?

But those don't look like original Bugeye gauges do they?

Some of them are, let me find the exact link.

Hmm,
Fuel gage has gas pump pic on it 38.86
Spedo is too 110 vs 100 217.76
Oil pres/water temp is same 156.18
Clock is super, 108.74
Tac is elec, and goes to 7K vs 6K

Can you live with all that?

But, the speedo and tach don't have the silver inset like the original, or am I confused about what is original?

Very intresting. Buy em new and enjoy em forever. Rebuilds much more expensive than new ones according to them.

I just had Nisonger go thru a dual gauge (water temp/oil pressure) and it was about $150... I'll look at that site when I do up the Elan, fer sure.

Wait a min, going to go get mine from garage

My goodness you are correct, wonder if they can fix that?

Well, anyway. Sigh.

What they show are what I'd call "second gen"... after the changes in '68 for the most part. Wonder if they offer the chrome center clock & tach, just "not pictured".

I did send them a email a while ago and they did answer. They will restore old smiths gages but it is not cheep.

Any way there is a source, not for concourse but a source.

Like I said they will rebuild if you must go that route. Wonder if they would put my old pointers on new ones for a reasonable price?

Is that one of the wood-rimmed ones that were accessories at the time? What diameter is it?

I'm probably going to have my gauges rebuilt as needed. As posted above, I don't want to loose the silver face on the speedo/tach. Mine do all work now, with the exception of the speedo, so it will be a one-at-a time thing. If you're not too worried about originality, then new gauges would probably be a nice thing. I like the idea of using as much original stuff as possible, so for me it's worth the extra cash--in the larger scheme of what we spend on these cars, a few hundred dollars is pretty irrelevant to me. I also have all the gauges in hand, so don't have to spend time hunting eBay for replacements.

APT makes instrument glass lenses in various sizes (curved, convex or flat) and provides chroming or nickel plating services for bezels, knobs, and many other small parts. We do not plate trim parts or bumpers.

This is a quote from the smith web site, maybe we can do this.

Jack, The pointers are not the problem, the dial face itself has a silver inset... doesn't it?

Use your own custom design or our factory artwork on gauge face dials for kit cars, race cars and new car production. No project too small or too big.

Guess they can do what ever.

Nisonger has always been the place I've sent any gauges to have redone. Always been reliable and "first time right." I tend to stick with what I know. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
