TR2/3/3A this shifter/ ball and cup

Since I have been on the topic of getting rusty old stuck parts lose. I have this shifter ball and cup on a transmission that I cannot get off. This is not the overdrive I got, but the one that came with this rusty project. It is kind of odd, but I actually enjoy getting these stuck things apart, but again the older I get, and the older these cars get, I am finding that less fun.

Anyways I am at the point of trying a pipe wrench on the top of the cup to see if I get it to move by changing the shape of the top some and forcing that ½ lap over on the bottom to come lose. I have gotten a lot of stuck ones in the past apart by soaking them and using chisels to get them to move, but this one is really stuck. I guess this is a case of dis-similar metals bonding.

Steve, if it gets damaged too much in getting it loose, I have a spare tranny cover from my "magic pile" I can send you. I think it's from a TR4, but it looks the same with the exception of the shifter lever.

Have you tried heat and some penetrant after the heat was applied? A couple of cycles and a few taps with a hammer may loosen it.

How about trying an oil filter strap wrench?

Cheers

Yeh I have a small oil filter for spitfire, I think, and with some duct tape, it is a tight fit--- still no joy. I tried a lot of heat, perhaps too much because I think I toasted the oil ring seals on the shifter. I have had a few small victories with this project this week, but the stuck stuff is winning. Onward.
