This makes me sick

This story broke last week. It is greed both on the proxy test takers as well as the applicant applying for a teaching position. My question is: When a teacher is hired by a school district doesn't the hiring school get transcripts of the applicants grades from colleges? Point being if the applicant can't pass a certification test then I'm betting they did not have stellar grades in college.
Unfortunately, this kind of thing has been going on for eons... a few years ago there were proxy SAT takers, more recently there were kids of Hollywood stars getting into colleges on bogus claims of being members of sports teams, etc.
It should make everyone sick who attained their professional success by hard work and on their own merit.

Remember a few years ago when a dean at Harvard was fired - for having faked job history and references? No one had bothered to check the paperwork. The phrase "Trust - but verify" comes to mind.

(Imagine how the people who applied for that job - and didn't get it - feel ...)

yeesh

I recall a few years ago an ad for someone to take the ethics portion of the CPA exam.
There is still an on investigation of the Albuquerque police related to allegations that cops helped DWI defendants avoid conviction in exchange for payoffs. The scandal has resulted in the dismissal of some 200 DWI cases. Several officers and a local defense attorney involved.

Oh, and the (former) editor of our paper was recently arrested for shoplifting.

Good grief!

Granted this is in Texas, and I am not sure what their process is, but I can tell you what Oklahoma requires. In Oklahoma we have to have a bachelor's degree and then we must pass two general exams and a subject specific exam. The state department of education issues a certificate to us with our areas of certification. When you get hired you have to provide your teaching certificate and your college transcripts to your district. I've heard of folks who had trouble passing the certification exams but those are few and far between, for the most part the exams are pretty basic and easy to pass. I can't imagine how incompetent you must be to need to hire a proxy to take your exam.
