They have them now. BMW has the ultimate supercar. The more you throw it around the more it recharges itself. Had Clarkson driving it and when he drove normal, had to be charged. Drive it like you stole it and all the kenetic energy kept battery up without having to charge it.
For years I've wondered about the possibility of a vehicle that would run off self-charging electricity - using its momentum to run a generator/alternator.
What about adding a paddle wheel under the stream of water in the first example. The paddle wheel could be attached to a small generator. I would think the water would continue to flow.The practical issue with them is as soon as you add in any sort of drag (for energy harvesting), everything falls apart.
