Looked at the Alfa's OP gauge today while crusin' 70MPH onna innerstate... below 55 PSI!!! GAH!!! 450 miles on the last oil change, quite deliberate about how the filter went in... this is disgusting. Pump vane tol's were in spec, all was FINE 'til Vinnie had to go and start yappin' about low oil pressure in his MGB... apparently ol' Luigi can access the 'net and is readin' th' BCF when I ain't lookin'. Gonna put a 'hard' gauge on it before I get too panic-stricken. The sender in it now came from NAPA so there could be some rejection thingie happenin' (hey, I can HOPE, can't I?). /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

I don't WANNA pull an Alfa engine! WAHHHH!!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cry.gif

Funny how the OP can mean different things in different cars. Mine cold ~might~ hit above 40, hot & idle is in the 20 range...and I firmly believe this is ~normal~!! I do carry about 40 when cruising at your 70 highway speed...at least I think I'm going 70.

The surroget LBC runs at about 20 psi cold, and the needle dropps to 0 when it warms up. No smoke, no knocks, oil level good. It's been that way for 10 years. I'm convinced it's the 27 year old pressure sender.

We'll see. A "real" gauge will be plumbed up to it shortly. Alfas are 'diff'rent' than our LBC's in that they run comfortably on lower OP... just not THAT much lower.

No untoward noises, no funny symptoms. It'll be a diagnostic process with no over-reaction. I've pedal'd these silly things around for a few years now.

To quote my fave songwriter: "Only Time Will Tell."

Doc:

I hope all works out well with Luigi.
