I am so tired of dealing with contractors, adjusters and mortgage companies!!!!!. The reason I do my own remodeling is that I just HATE having someone else in control. The insurance company gave us a partial check ("To get the roof fixed" but they wrote it up with an adjustment that included the interior work. The roof alone was almost the entire amount of the check. We are required to send it to the mortgage company who dole it out in 1/3's (of course none of it has come back yet) We have to have an inspector when 2/3 of the work is done. He checks off what insurance says we would do...but..we had a gable built over the back door because the overhang and gutters were rotting out the facia. Now, the inspector says he can't release the money for the gutters since we didn't replace them (NO WE BUILT A BETTER DESIGN THAT WILL PREVENT FUTURE PROBLEMS AND IT COST LESS THAN THOSE STUPID GUTTERS!!!! AAAAAARGH!)
I've spent 3 months scraping the blown acoustical cielings in the kitchen....insurance says here's $520 to fix the hole in your ceiling, scrape, prime and re-blow the acoustical ceiling. My builder says we can float 1/2 inch sheetrock and have smooth ceilings for half that. (Cool!) But the mortgage company says we can't have the money insurance gave us until we show NEW ACOUSTICAL Ceilings!!!!
I have bids to remodel the Master bath and work begins in June, but insurance won't pay "fro remodeling" only putting it ack like it was. The mortgage company won't geve me money if I put in a Jacuzzi, only if I can show the tile shower. So, we build ti back EXACTLY like it was, have insurance pay the contractor and then tear it all out next month to make it what we we wanted before all this happened! Its a waste of my time and everyone's money.
I HATE THESE PEOPLE and this game! Give me my money. let me fix my house and get out of my life!
I'm sorry, I know this is a rant, but I'm sure you feel my pain.

The joys of home ownership, compounded by the stupidity of large companies. Sorry to hear of your trials with these folks!

Terri, I'll join you, misery loves company...I am beginning the 2ND year in my ordeal to get a garage built! <Want a donut?! :smile:>

Terri, that is just flipping %@#*&%#@# on their part!

Terri:
Same thing happened to me last month, Wind blew my roof and some of my facia off. Unlike you I got a check in my name for the ammount of repairs after the adjuster came and took a look. He estimated $2,500.00 in damage and wrote me a check for the same. I repaired the roof myself for a nominal fee {Wayyyyyyyy less than the $2,000.00 estimated.} The facia I will have a contractor do simply because I have no scaffolding. {Besides, I don`t much like heights without something substantial underneath me!}
it`s nice to be in "Good Hands"
I`m thinking if I were you, I`d be for changing insurance co`s.
P.S. if you havn`t figured out whom I deal with by now and want to know send me a P.M.
