Just talked with a good friend of mine, and he's going to come up to my place on Saturday and we're going to attempt to get the Tunebug started. Woohoo!

Any last thoughts on what I should re-inspect before firing things up? I've got confirmed oil pressure, oil in the engine (and transmission and rear end), functioning clutch, coolant, fuel pump pumps, timing seems to be proper...

What else should I go over?

Make sure you have spark and fuel at the correct level in the carbs with correct initial carb adjust and it oughta go!!
Have fun!!

Not to be negative, but I would have the fire extinguisher handy. Clear a good area around the car. Keep the video camera handy. Be ready if all else fails to pull off a battery cable. Put the cardboard under the engine just in case the old girl is spotting. I'm planning this weekend to do the same thing if I can get these f*%$# SUs set up.
Good luck

Good advice!

Confirm timing as we talked about, make sure your battery is well charge, even a second battery running inparaleel with jumper cables is a good idea. Conform OP again before firing just to be sure this something I norally do for the first tiem, right before I starting for the first time.have some one on the carb side once fore t idle the carbs up to the 2000 rpms we talked about, you need 20 minutes at 2000 rpms to bed the cam in, don't let the water get above 180-200 degrees, if you need to [censored] it off to and get two session in for your 20 minute cam bedding done fret, you just need 20 minutes total, doesn't matter how you get it. as you are doing the 20 minutes, it will be good time to check total timing advance, forget the vaccum disconnected idel timing at this point, you can paly with that later, by 3500 you will ss all the advnce in the system, don't be afraid to rev it that point for checking totla advance, thats nothing for this motor. The fuel mixture should be close, best I remberwe used a #3 needle for your engine, which is same as the stock AN until you get to final stage in which it is richer than the AN. once you've got your 20 minutes cam bedding in and your timing dialed in, you can set your normal idle speed, with the VP276, it won't be at stock 800 rpms, but it should still smooth out at 1000-1200 rpms, you want a smooth idel for stop signs and red lights a perforamcne cam will increase your idle to get it smooth, this is perfectly normal. As you play more, you can increase the fast idle screws on the throttle levers as need to get the choke setting the way you want, look at this devide, all the fast idle screw do are open the throttle plate more when the choke is use, you can fine tune it to your liking. Use the VR1 20/50 oil we talked about, and anytime after a few hundred mile up to 500 miles, change the oil and filter and use the VR1 oil again. Keep close watches on all fluid levels, Drew you need premium unleaded for this engine, it just under 10.0 to 1. After a few hat cycles retorque the head and adjust the valves, fully expect the head stud bolts furthest form the poutside to take a bit torque to get back to spec, use 50 foot lbs with the ARP fastenr for a head torque.

Oh and last but not least, have some beers on hand for toasting to your journaey to get to this point.

Thanks for the notes, Hap.

And yes, I've got a fresh bottle of The Macallan ready for the toast.

Go for it Drew.
