No need to bend the rules.... the goal is GOOD.
All of the requirements of the throw-in were met AND the ball was touched by a player before crossing the goal-line under the cross-bar and between the uprights.
Now, had the thrower thrown the ball into the net WITHOUT any other player touching the ball the restart would have been a goal kick.

Oh, one question for you don....
What is the correct restart if the thrower throws the ball into his OWN goal without anyone touching the ball before it enters the net?

You are correct... restart is indeed a corner.
Regarding the throw. The only way it would not meet the requirements of a legal throw is if it did not come from behind his head, his feet crossed the touchline OR had his rearend touched the pitch.
I reffed a game where the player did the same exact throw. In this case the throwers rear touched the ground, so I called a throw going the other way. In order for the throw to be legal, you can't have THREE points touching the ground (two feet and your rearend). The coach challanged me on the call because I told him his players butt touched the ground. As proof I made the player turn around and showed the coach the grass stains on the shorts... case closed.
