Third gear installation best method

What is the best/easiest method for installing the spring, plunger and locking washer for 3rd gear on a rib case Sprite transmission? It was easy enough to get off, but assembly ain't the reverse of disassembly (as far as I can tell). The Chilton manual trivializes this process, but I'm stumped.

Thanks
Thom

Take a look at this thread https://www.britishcarforum.com/ubbthread...true#Post250194

My girlfriend came up with the solution. This is a two person job. Make a loop out of some small gauge wire, I used 0.035 mig welded wire but anything small will do like mechanics wire, etc. Push the plunger in with a screw driver or small drift and keep it pulled in with the loop of wire. Have the other person push the washer down. It should catch the plunger and push the wire down. Cut the loop of wire and pull it out while pushing down on the washer. Once the wire is out rotate the washer and it should lock in. Have a beer and celebrate.

Oh yea, that's Chris famous girl friend, the Healey specialist. Nice going Chris.

Jack,
I have to give credit where it is due. Especially since Mark pointed out she is smarter than me, a lot smarter.

All that really means is you selected well.

And Chris, I'm thinking you should hang on to her.She sounds like valuable asset /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif My wife is pretty helpful, and enjoys being,as she puts it,a mechanics helper. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Stuart.

Wait, just wait till she wants her own Bugeye.

I can be very patient at times Jack. So far she would like an MGA,MGB and a big Healey. Unforunately, can't convince the bank that giving me the money to cover all this,is a good investment for them. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif A Frog eye would be nice too. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/savewave.gif

My wife keeps mumbling abot a TC. Sigh.

Hey Jack, last night at our meeting, an elderly long time member decided to sell his TD. It is a VERY nice car. Unfortunately he is asking a very nice price $20,000.

Yep, and prob worth it to him.
