Thinking about Golden Retriever

Some of you may remember we lost our 11 year old Golden Molly over the Thanksgiving holiday. Well we've noticed that Emma (Mollys 9yr old sister) is pretty lonely and isn't as perky as she used to be before we lost her sister. Anyway we've been talking about getting another Golden puppy sometime early next year and have been doing some searches.

Lots out there to choose from ranging in price from "free" for an 4 year old adult female, while puppies ranging form $800 to $5000 for some of the white English types.

Anyway we found these for the lower end price wise and think they're pretty cute. What'd ya think?

Probably going to drive up to see them the week or two after new years.

Bret...from years in the pet services biz I assure you there is nothing better than a new pup for Emma and the family. It will usually extend her life and relieve her depression (as well as your families). It's best if you found the pups based on referrals, and be sure you get to see MOM and POP....A pup is usually the best approach than adoption of an older pet, one of them will have to dominate and it's usually the elder..the pup will normally accept..but either way new pup or adoption it usually works out...As with our collectors have someone who knows them (vet) look the new one over to be sure no genetic issues that you will have to deal with later. Make sure the seller agrees to your check, however, in most cases once you've picked it and brought them home it's too late...they're already part of the family... GOOD LUCK
 
About a year ago we contacted the Golden Retriever Rescue and for a minimal feww got a 1 year old the someone had given up for adoption. Zen was in a good house but not given the attention he needed so he was given up. Not sure if the GTR is local to us or is a US thing but they were very helpful in placing him with us. We are happy with him and he is well behaved and gets along with our other dog Zaida.
 
A friend just got a puppy golden from a breeder in your area. They had a very good experience. Contact me by PM or email if you want their contact info.
 
I think ALL dogs have the potential to be great dogs. Truly man's best friend, IMHO.

With that in mind, why not go to your local animal shelter or SPCA and adopt a dog? You may even find a retriever!

I've had pedigreed dogs and cats, and I've had lots of adopted animals, too. Strangely, the best and most lovable pets came from the SPCA.

I second the suggestion for getting a Golden from your local Golden Retriever Rescue. Just google "Golden Retriever Rescue and your location" and I am sure one in the area will pop up. We lost our 17 year old Golden and after about a year decided it was time for another one. I googled and found a local Golden Rescue center and when I went to visit, one Golden jumped in my car while I was getting my purse. Well, his name is Toby and he's a treasure! He was 5 at the time. He's now 9 and quite the family member.
 
All the pups you see will be purchased in time. What's nice about the GTR is no potty training. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
