Had a great weekend, Mrs JP and I drove to the Laurentions (North of Montreal) for a bit of a getaway. Had a lovely time. It is amazing how different Quebec is to the rest of Canada and not just because of language. I speak a bit of French but everyone there is fluently and easily bilingual. the People of Quebec spend more on leisure than people of any other province and attitudes to things like food and drink are much more European than North American. Example. The town we spent the most time in is called San Sauveur population about 12000. It is a ski destination and while it is between seasons (one hill was still open!) it is very much a tourist destination and close enough to Montreal that it is not an unreasonable commute.)
Still this was the bakery we ended up at - in a small town! Flavours to rival anything we have eaten in Paris!
Similarly in restaurants - food was great but, more importantly the pace was slow and comfortable.
We made a trip to Knowlton. If any of you read the Inspector Gamache Three Pines Myteries written by Louise Penny - Three Pines is based on Knowlton. (Mrs JP is a huge fan and while I don't read much fiction and not everything she writes is gold, she is a brilliant writer) Had a moment at the book store and then went for crepes at a lovely little place - and more to the point the restaurant was filled with people simply enjoying each other's company over great food.
Oh and there was an LBC connection.
All in all a wonderful time.
Here though is my question. In San Sauveur all through the town they had pictures of their past. This is a picture of their first taxi (bus). I have never seen anything like it - does it look familier to anyone? I realize it is likely home built but typically home/custom builts will use the original grille
Finally the observation, Yesterday we had brunch at a restaurant facing the main corner of the community. EVERYONE was out and about for one of the first truly beautiful days. Some classic cars many motorcycles but I swear every third car was a porsche. Not to diminish them (my cousin had one and it was a hoot to drive) but, my goodness Hyundais were less common. I sometimes think I should just get rid of the old stuff and buy something newer and more suited to higways - it reinforced my thoughts of chosing a Jag convertible on the basis of unusualness if nothing else.
still a great time was had by all/
