Theme park in Oklahoma

It looks like a 2 billion dollar theme park was approved near Vinita Oklahoma which seems to be set on a Disney scale. About 50 miles from us. Vinita is where I usually go for the October Fest car show. I have no idea how the town will handle the influx of traffic after the park is built. Just a small Western Plains-style town on the famous Rt. 66. I think the proposed park will be approximately 5 miles out of town and not far off of Interstate 44. PJ

gak - I think back in the "olden days", most people had to work all their lives. If you had free time, you read a book. Now people are often desperate for something to do, and for ways to spend money.

Scary to think that in the near future, we might become another country's "theme park".

 .

Wow, I've been to (more accurately through) Vinita. That will be a shock but the additional income just might make it worth while.

Can you imagine when it's hay-cutting/bailing time here and all the tractors and equipment are on the roads, and the city slickers have no idea of how to drive in farm country, there will be problems? I hope Vinita doesn't get gobbled up by big business and destroy the atmosphere of the town! Needless to say, I wish they would put it out in the panhandle. :rolleyes2:

The major problem here is 44 is 75/80 limit mph :rolleyes2: and dumping off on roads where the speed is down to 45 to 55 will create a problem. We see it here on Highway 82 by our place where people drop down off I-412 onto a two-lane road and some have a hard time lowering their speed to posted limits. 82 is known for serious accidents due to speed and few guard rails. Hope I'm wrong, but I don't think so. PJ

Nah, not in the panhandle. They ought to stick it over in Missouri, those people love bemusement parks.

How 'bout a new "Dickens World"! Poverty stricken people kow-towing to filthy-rich aristocrats, children begging for food while picking pockets, pigs rooting through garbage, men in debtors prison ... you know ... the "Common People's Experience!" A good day out to bring some cheer!
