The thread on noisy clutches brought to mind the most ludicrous I have ever come across. A customer (now passed)
had his " freshly done" Tr3 in for a "noise" . The symptoms were horrific grinding and no release of the clutch. He had
installed all new bits ,but it only worked for a few miles.
We pulled the tranny and the carnage was impressive,The bellhousing was bright gold from powered brass.
He had neglected to install the TO bearing onto the sliding collar!!!!!!!
The collar and the new clutch were all scrap. Easy to fix, but this was the tip of the iceberg of his mechanical skills.
Needless to say it took a lot of sorting to save this 3.

"Sir! Put down the wrench, and slowly back away... "

And yes, I'm casting stones when I've done equal or worse.

Do we already have a thread somewhere to confess the worst "car-nage" we've ever committed?

I have always maintained that there is a good rule for doing anything well: stay within the limits of your own competence. Unfortunately, living by this rule requires a certain level of self awareness, which seems to be in short supply these days.

Like I said , when you complete a job have a look at the parts"leftover" A single bolt can be forgiven
a washer or 2, but a TO bearing?? An extra piston?? Thrust washers?
In the deep south the saying was"get away from that wheelbarrow You dont know nothing about machinery"
