The story of my life...

Just a little bummed right now... I was in the running for a text book cover with an American company, and they wanted to use some of my photos... I didn't make the final cut...

<span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="font-style: italic">"Unfortunately, they have decided to go with another cover. It was in no way a reflection of your work, everyone loved it. It had more to do with the concept and what was right for the book."</span></span>

It would have also netted me $500 (US), money I could use rather badly, especially as I have no real job right now to even try to save up for camera gear I need to try to get ahead

I really had my hopes up for this one, it would been a big deal... *sigh* Back to the drawing board...

hang in there man. You'll get your turn!

Yeah young man!
Hang tough, you'll get there.

Your work is way too good to be ignored for too long.
Next thing you know, you'll have no time for yourself.
And the guys and gals here support you!

Dave :grouphug:

P.S. Good to see you back Rob

I agree with Dave. I'm constantly awed by your shots. there is something in the composition of them that usually makes me pause and take it all in. Your time will come.

Said it before, I'll say it again: "Submit, submit, submit!"

James, this is part and parcel of th' trade. It's tougher now than ever before, which translates to the same thing. Be prolific.

To slightly clarify, they found me... I would have never known they were looking for the text book cover photos, and I did know from talking to them that there was more than one proposal.

I think a large part of me was getting slightly greedy (in a good way
grin.gif
) for that $500 - towards savings for a Nikon D90, as the way things are going for me financially right now is not great, and I really need an upgraded camera for better performance, especially in relation to my stage performance work, my current D70s is a little short of ideal... Plus the fact that I've taken so many photos with the D70s that I know it can't last forever, and I'm not sure what I'd do if it ever gives up the ghost on me...

In short I'm getting frustrated with not having the gear I really need to further myself, but unfortunately the funds are a wee bit dry right now to be able to purchase that gear I really need to further myself... While it seems like everyone around me is getting new cameras and lenses, etc...

I'll quit whining now, just needed to get all of this out, and I do know I'm a poor man in a rich man's hobby :savewave:

James;

Love the shot at the bottom of your page.
That girl looks remarkably like my friends daughter, She lives in Calgary now. Name is Emily.
And Harley Hotchkiss (owns the Flames) also comes from my hometown.
Small world ain't it!

Keep the pics coming. You'll be fine.

Dave (fan)

And in case anyone is wondering, this is what could have made me rich, er... at least a little richer than I am right now... Now it's just a dead file...

As always, James, your work is quite impressive. I know I never would have made a living in the creative photography world, but you can. Keep at it, and things will happen. And then I will be able to say I knew him before he was famous...

There's this guy I've heard about. He was a struggling artist, like you. One day he came home and his wife cut up the credit cards and such because they simply had no money and didn't know where any was coming from. Then the guy got a letter - one of his lesser works sold to some fairly unknown company. You may have heard of this guy - Stephen King. Like Doc says, keep putting it out there....you'll hit it eventually. Guaranteed to miss completely if you don't do anything.

Keep baiting the hook and casting!!! More than one fish in the ocean!!
