The State of Iowa is CLOSED!

I have never seen so many schools and businesses closed due to bad weather. Almost everything in Iowa is closed today. So far we have received approx. 16 inches of snow with several more to come today. The winds are howling with 40-50 MPH gusts. I have a couple of 5-6 ft. snow drifts in my yard and driveway. I don't even think I can get out with my Jeep. Current (8:30 AM CST) temperature is 9 degrees with a wind chill of -15 degrees. Parts of Interstate 80 around central Iowa are closed. They have even recalled snowplows north of Des Moines. You know it's bad when they bring in the plows in the middle of a blizzard.

At some point today, I'll have to fire up the snowblower. Can't do that until the winds dye down. What's the point? It'll just drift over again in about an hour.

It's a good day to stay home with the family. I'll spend some time researching things for my TR6 restoration and upcoming Mid-Iowa Brit/Euro Car Classic (www.midiowacarclassic.com) next June. Maybe even update those websites. Hope all of you are safe and sound with your Triumphs today.

How is it all the towns in Iowa came to be named after water towers?

Don't worry about a thing. Al Gore is on his way out there. Now that the internet is all finished, he'll fix the snow problem too.

At least it's dry here, BUT it hit 9 degrees last night and hasn't been above freezing for 3 days. Yesterday a pipe broke at the school my wife teaches at shorting the fire alarm so everybody had to be outside with no coats until they figured out what was making the fire alarm go off then they had no water for most of the day.

My snow machine is ready to go. Just 8-12" forecast for here.

Had a freeze in Az last night too and snow in the mountains last few days... a tad chilly driving with the aeroscreens last night but for some masochistic reason I enjoy it.

This should get through some of those snow drifts.

Yup, it's global warming...piles and piles of snow where you are, but up here where I am its -36!!! with about 1 inch of snow on the ground.

That's nothing. I remember back in April and May they were closing everything down because of the swine flu! And that was back before any American died of it. We actually had snow last week and I was surprised as heck that they didn't close down the schools. Sure it was all melted by 9 or 10 but sometimes they'll start classes late in case something like that happens. I think they were all just [censored] off at all the dang Yankees calling us wusses because we used to cancle everything if water ever became solid. But if they want a bunch of drivers inexperienced with the wonders of winter on the road that fine. Just don't get upset when we drive 30mph under and still slide into you.

Keep it

It tis 80 here

I am so done with the snow, muck and such

It is 46 degrees here and I am getting ready to go for a drive. I gotta test out the heater.

I left the snow some time back, but I did get 12" of crap in my pool from the storm.

The heater will keep your right knee warm. The aero screens are not made for cold weather. So the restoreation work on the stock windsheild will go faster with the freezing face as a reminder why there are big windsheilds.

Sounds a bit like the weather in IN, the year I decided to move to CA. They literally declared martial law and shut most of the state down; there was a 27 foot snow drift on the highway between where I lived and school.

Started out with a freezing rain, so there were several inches of ice under the snow; streets were literally so slick that it was difficult/impossible to stand up. At one point, I leaned against my car and it slid sideways!

Supposedly, all the snowplows but one were in the ditch, so they put the last one away and waited for it to stop snowing.

as long as no Iowaians can't leave is alright by me
