I took my wife's nephew for ride around town last night in the Midget knowing full well that the battery was in a questionable state. He is considering attending college here in Austin, Texas, so I was showing some hot spots and cool places. After stopping at the first "cool place" we had to push start the Midget. I should have gone home at that point. But no, I laugh at danger and common sense.

While driving down Gudalupe street across from the University of Texas, my clutch started to go out on me (air in the hydralics) and I killed the engine at a light. Now Guadalupe is a very busy street day or night, but regardless, I made my poor nephew get out and give me a push. I popped what was left of the clutch in the middle of an intersection and the car screeched to a halt just as the light changed.

I hopped out, grabbed the roll bar, and started pushing with my nephew. We got 'er rolling pretty good with both of us pushing. I jumped back in the car, screamed "hop in!" to my nephew and popped the clutch. The car lurched forward as it started causing my nephew to off balance almost giving him a taste of pavement. Laughing hysterically, he managed to hurtle the door and we zipped away.

Of course, at this point, the cluth was practically non-existant and my ability to down shift was nil. And I proved, once again, that God protects the ignorant, because we had green lights all the way home. That is something that has never, ever happened to me in the stop light happy city of Austin.

Sounds like the only thing missing was the rain and getting soaked.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Well, I think in this story, I was definitely the "simple minded."

I have a brand new battery now, and the clutch is working well again... so far.
