The Prince of Darkness is a cold heartless son of a......

Last Friday morning as I was leaving for work, our neighbor called to let us know our 1957 Glasspar Club Lido caught fire in their garage. It was all original and in pristine condition. It was used in a wedding earlier this summer and written up in the newspaper after attending a boat show a couple of weeks ago. As of now I don't know why and may never know but one suspicion I have is the cursed Prince of Darkness. I'll post pictures later.........

What a horrible bit of news. Bad enough for a *new* boat ... but a 1957 !

Your boat was in a neighbor's garage? That's going to be interesting for the insurance companies.

Lidofire9v2.jpgSorry this one is fuzzy.....the firemen must have dumped those flower pots in after the flames were out....

Why would firemen throw pots in boat, unlikely. Could there be any chemicals in those pots? Sorry for your loss.

What a rotten shame. So, what was the cause of the fire?

Peter- Will it buff out?

Sorry , someone had to say it.
Terrible news

Agreed, I hate to say this but I think there is a better chance your neighbor was putting stuff in your boat for whatever reason and shorted something...

If no one has messed with it, check all of your switch position to see if anyone left anything on or was fooling around. It just bursting into flames for no apparent reason doesn't make any sense.

Hard to say for sure without a better shot of starboard, but it looks like it may have started on the port aft of the seat. I find that strange seeing both the battery and the original starting hardware is on the other side.

Does the neighbor have kids and was the garage open when this happened?

I'm so sorry to read about this. I hope it turns out well in the end. Sittin here looking at the pics, I can almost smell it. Ugh! I had to work on a burned up Porsche 356 once. The smell of that was horrific. And there was no fiberglass involved!
