Once( in the dim past), my old 59 Tr3 broke a rocker shaft stud in traffic downtown Ks City. This let the entire assembly
flail about maddly causing horrible missing/backfiring. I had to remove the # one push rods and limp to find a machine shop
to extract the broken bit from the head. The shop was clear across KC and it was a real slog to get there.....

Kansas City and Amarillo, TX are my bad-luck cities. I've broken down every time I drive through them!?!

OK ,but have you ever spun a pinion bearing at 85mph in Oklahoma??(don't forget to top up the diff)

Well...I lost a diesel injector at 5pm on a Friday in Ozona TX that shut the rig down cold. Made Oklahoma look like downtown LA! Lost a connecting rod in Columbus Ms on a Saturday night...wasn't much better. Also swallowed a valve in a Big Block Vette in Syracuse NY. I removed and repaired the head in the Holiday Inn parking lot wearing dress clothes, cause that's all I packed. Another connecting rod in the New Orleans 9th ward projects after midnight...fuel pump at 2am in Amarillo.

I'm just getting warmed up!

Such a low bar indeed!!
Wife's 17 Camry needed a new battery(last and only problem so far). The Brits hated Camrys.
No drama I guess. Toyota finally pulled the model from the UK market for low sales!!

Do you get any warning before when a connecting rod goes? I imagine a lot of noise when it goes?

When an intake-valve pushrod failed between Denver and Cheyenne in 1965, my TR4 completed the trip at nearly the same speed and with no associated damage.

Went 600 miles with a toasted exhaust valve in #3. Dead miss all the way, but not a break
down as in WMFW.(walk mortar flaker walk).

I used to log oil wells in Ozona, TX.

Luckily, I never broke down there. What a place!

Ozona does have a steak house we got to patron on a Friday night!

My daughter broke down in downtown Dallas last week. It was in her 20 year old car that I have been maintaining since new. It would have restarted, but she was so rattled that it died in the middle lane during rush hour that she forgot to shift to neutral or park. She had never experienced a breakdown in her life! I taught her to drive, and remember going over the steps to take in a breakdown, but she had never used the knowledge and forgot it over the 10 years she has been driving.

I have to say, it did give me a feeling of pride that I was able to maintain her car for 20 years before her first breakdown. She is shopping for a new car, but plans to keep the old VW Beetle convert "forever".
