Oh great! A mouse had assumed room temperature in one of the walls on my study! The smell is now such that I must wear my painting respirator just to go in and check, email.

Once he dries out, the smell goes away...hehehehe

"Incense and Peppermints"...

Nasty business. Don't forget that new computer inna' garage. You know, while you're working on the car. Wink, nod, say no more.

I'd sure rather have it die inside the wall, than UNDER THAT NEW FLOOR!

Maybe you sent him to blue heaven with all that noise from the flooring nail gun. Hey, a mouse needs peace and quite too :jester:

Uh....you have seen the cat since you finished
the new floor..right? :eeek:

Basil, you are a bad, bad man!

Obviously that innocent little mouse came scampering out to get some cheese, saw that STUNNING new floor, had a myocardial infarction, dragged itself back into the wall and prompty expired!

You should be wracked with guilt and overcome with regret!!

Ok, unpack your suitcases, the guilt trip is over....LOL!!

The smell is getting worse - I'm beginning to thik this may be something bigger than a mouse - like a squirrel maybe.

Or maybe the cat BIBBER mentioned?!?

Hmmmm, you could be right. Mice don't smell THAT powerful. You have skunks at all down there? (Hey, what do I know? I'm a Limey, never even SEEN a skunk!)

I could send you one, if you'd like - plenty around here... :jester:

Maybe an overkill but you could breath ecoli or some other nasty germ. I know dead rats are a concern and home inspectors use resperators when going in inner city crawlspaces. May or may not be a risk.

roofman, last year i rehabed a small apartment building in norwalk ct, while removing the old ceilings we found 10-15 super large "mummyfied" rats, near perfectly presureved, im a licensed taxidermist and couldnt have done a better job, they most likely froze to death since no one had lived in the building for several years. :eeek:

Don't ask me how I know this: NEVER set out poison for rodents! Trap them -- and then dispose of the bodies off premises.

More fun: trap 'em, then stuff 'em in the neighbor's walls.

:jester:

Yup.. I don't like the poison method. Trap'em and send them farrrrrr away. I've had to remove a few mice, 2 squirrels and a bat from my house. I've done several bat removals over the years at different locals. they're hard to catch with that durn sonar system they have!
Ar eyou sure it's in the walls Basil.. It might be somewhere you could get to it.

Basil- Don't know if you have a fireplace.... we had a squirrel get down our chimney and could not get out. The smell drove me crazy until I opened the flue and looked inside with a flashlight only to see the dead squirrel.
After I disposed of the varment I installed a mesh box on top of the chimney to prevent the squirrels from getting in. You can find them at Loews, Home Depot, etc.

That's how the 2 squirrels got in my house Elliot. They sit on top of the chimney in the winter to get warm, then pass out from the carbon monoxide and fall in. then they get into my basement through the draft protection on the furnace. I gotta get one of those mesh boxes! My train set can't take another "squirrelzilla"
Oh yea, I had a bird get in that way too! Talk about realistic effect on the HO scale statue in the town square! He made a big mess down there!
